Both of my parents are artists and have greatly influenced and supported my creativity. The majority of my influence comes from the great industrial designers of the machine age and the purposeful yet beautiful items that they created. I feel that these men worked towards a future that never really happened. One outcome of this era was that all items from a diesel locomotive to a common flashlight were streamlined. Though it is a beautiful item to consider, I have not found a reason why a flashlight needs to be streamlined.
I believe that the quality of the finish and the presentation of a piece can have as much impact as the concept behind the piece. A well-crafted piece will cause a greater impact on the viewer and present the meaning behind the piece with greater influence than a work with less refinement.
It is my opinion that there is an over abundance of political and religious art in the world. I want my work to be admired for its sense of humor and craftsmanship rather than have it voice my opinion on my beliefs. I feel that good sculpture must ignite the viewer’s thought process in order to create a reaction. I enjoy what I do very much. I hope that this is apparent in my work and that the viewer gains some satisfaction by viewing it.
