The Beautiful & The Absurd

Whether it is a magazine ad, a billboard or another music video, images are everywhere we look, and they are all trying to sell us something. However, instead of demonizing the mass-marketing machine, I shine a different light on the issue… humor. My photographs highlight the absurdities frequently overlooked in the world of beauty, fashion and design. With tableaux setups and outlandish characters, I create a world that brings a smile to the viewer’s face while questioning the media-infused culture that surrounds us.

I use a 4x5 view camera to shoot my original compositions. Using a high-resolution flatbed scanner, I upload my negatives to Photoshop for manipulation. While I avoid obvious digital effects, I do use the computer to color balance, retouch and composite most of my photographs. Finally, I print the image onto a polyester-based material, known as PhotoFlex, using a Lambda laser printer.
